General WMT Pages

Frédéric Goetzinger's WMT page. (Mirror) [FR] [EN]
Along with mine, this is one of the few sites devoted to the WMT in general which is not in Japanese. Contains: An introduction to the WMT | A separate page for each series with synopsis, personal views, main staff, number of episodes, and foreign-language dubs | You can vote on your favorite WMT | You can join the WMT mailing-list maintained by Frédéric.

Hironobu Kanno's page. [JP] [EN]
A vast array of interesting topics ranging from anime to Japanese literature. Of particular interest to all interested in the history of anime and manga is the page on the kashibon'ya book-lenders of the 50s and 60s, a medium which supported great artists in its day, like Shirato Sanpei. Also a WMT page and any number of other interesting sections. Most of the page is bilingual.

Geoff Cowie's Shoujo and General page. [EN]
Manga reviews | Anime reviews | Anime broadcast on satellite TV (in which he reviews a number of WMT series) | Lots on girls' manga | A very substantive page. There are now many more WMT reviews and screengrab images.

Natsukawa's page. [DE]
(Not exclusively WMT) Pages on Little Women, Little Women II & Sara, and a page with Pollyanna settei (storyboards) and character designs.

Michael Unverzagt's WMT sound page. [EN]
Michael is searching for as many foreign dubs of WMT songs as he can find in order to convert them to MP3 and put on the web. They'll be collected on this page. (Michael also has a Little Women page)

Nausicaa.Net. [EN]
The definitive English-language web-site on the works of Studio Ghibli and its two main directors, Miyazaki Hayao and Takahata Isao. There is a WMT Page discussing the three WMT series in which the aforementioned two directors were involved (Heidi, Marco, & Anne; +Rascal).

Isao Takahata & Hayao Miyazaki Film Laboratory [JP]
A Japanese site on these two directors with filmographies, reviews and lots of other stuff.

Oh! Monkey's Uncle! Ach, So! [JP]
A general WMT page | Original work/director/music/setting and episode list for each series | Pictures from many places in which WMT series take place (taken by the author on sightseeing trips) | Links to Japanese & foreign pages devoted to each series; focus is on sites related to the setting.

Hajime Iwao's Masterpiece Anime page. [JP]
Perhaps the most informative WMT database. For each WMT series (and some of the false friends): Original novels | Related books | Videos | CDs | LDs | doujinshi. Recently the author added an English version of the page, which is still in the proecess of being written.

Ramdas's Masterpiece Theater Room.[JP]

Nino's Masterpiece Anime page. [JP] * Two out of the three series-specific WMT sections are back after a hiatus *
WMT Database with: | Original author/work | Number of episodes | Story setting | Ratings | Episodes | Insert and theme song information | A substantial story description | A lengthy section discussing production details, popularity, significance, etc. for each series. There are links for each series, but the files aren't there; he probably hasn't gotten to writing them yet. Only Heidi, Flanders and Marco have full pages so far. Also: A page on Rascal, a page on Joli, and a larger section on Little Women the anime with pages on: Little Women I | Little Women II | A Beth fan page | A favorite character poll (under construction) | A cell and goods collection (under construction).

Taa-bou's Masterpiece Anime page. [JP]
WMT Database (including five faux amis) with: | Episodes | Theme Songs | Voice Actors. Also an ie naki ko (Sans Famille) page.

Tamenishi's Masterpiece Anime page. [JP]
WMT Database | Info on how to download sound files.

? Nomura's Masterpiece Anime page. [JP]
Art gallery with pieces by the author, and almost 30 pieces received from others | "King of the WMT" staff ranking contest.

Amedeo's page. [JP]
The "Milk Crown" icon leads to a page with "bite-sized" (from page) writings on the WMT (and the immediate Fuji TV predecessors from Moomin to Heidi) | The "Honey Theater" icon leads to a page with miscellaneous playful writings on the WMT--ranging from an imaginary history of Angeletta (from Romeo) after the end of the series--to a fanfic crossing Shoujo Kakumei Utena (a recent off-the-wall cross-genre tv series) with A Little Princess Sara(!).

Tamago-san's page. [JP]
In the WMT page there is a Flanders page, a "history" of all the Fuji TV WMT, including those not made at Nippon Animation (from Moomin in 1969 to Heidi in 1975), and a page with interesting WMT facts (viz.: Did you know Lucy Maude Montgomery's house on Prince Edwards Isle (said to be the basis for Green Gables) almost burned down on 23 May 1997? Or that Jean Webster was Mark Twain's niece?)

Wachinoko Club [JP]
Has a listing of all the WMT with a bit of interesting commentary on each one. A Trapp page with all the usual pertinent info on the series. (Mirror)

K. Hirao's Sekai Meisaku Gekijô page [JP]
A huge page with lots to read. A separate page for each WMT, with a tremendous, blow-by-blow synopsis of the story, a listing of all Japanese editions of the original books upon which the WMT were based, a listing of all the WMT songs, reviews of all the songs, plus a couple of entertaining pages on WMT pets, food, clothing, protagonist bathing habits, etc.

Letter-writing Campaigns to Revive the WMT

( A note of explanation: Soon after the WMT was cancelled, some fans who felt that it was wrong to deprive children of WMT merely on the grounds of low ratings organized petitions to ask that the WMT be revived in some form on a station other than Fuji TV. This is a list of those petitions, along with related petitions. )

Horita Kôji's petition to revive the WMT. [JP]
Horita Kouji was the first to collect signatures for a petition to revive the WMT, in early 1997. On February 20, Kaneda Terufumi took over the petition. It ended December 1997 with 293 signatures. (from page) That same year, another person decided to start a petition. That one still continues and the progress can be seen on this page. "Signatures" can be sent to Miya, the maintainer, using a form. The stated goal for sending the signatures (which are sent to both Fuji TV and Nippon Animation) is to show support for and urge revival of the WMT on a station other than Fuji TV. An English page is (supposedly) "under construction."

[JP] Amazingly enough, there's yet another petition, this one also currently active. Komura Ryuunosuke began this one January 9, 1998 after having seen and been moved by the efforts of the previous two petitions. I assume the purpose of having these multiple petitions is to reach more people, for the goals are largely the same for each.
