Tidbits

Jean-Philippe RameauKoji Yamamura of Mt. Head fame just completed a new 13-minute film entitled The Old Crocodile, which will be premiered at the end of the month in New York. I just belatedly realized that Mt. Head had been brought over here by the Animation Show guys in 2003.

A selection of recent Minna no Uta vids is coming out on DVD at the end of the month. I don't know how many of them are animated, but I do know Atsuko Ishizuka's Moon Waltz is on there (as is one piece by Seiichi Hayashi), so it's a good chance to finally get to check out this item that produced a bit of buzz a few months back.

I think what I liked most about Full Throttle - (which won the best selection in the Morimoto/Yuasa ep of DigiSta - Morimoto picked it, not Yuasa) was the simple fact that the guy was 44 when he made it and he had just started making animation the year before. Not quite but almost as inspiring as Rameau composing his first opera at 50 to a slow starter like me.

Hiroyuki Imaishi is making a new film at IG called OVAL X OVER. Imaitoonz is the character designer. It's a story about the Indy car race. Mitsuo Iwata AKA 666 will be one of the voice-actors.

Wow, yet a new movie project by Imaishi, cool :)

About *freelance* animation, there’s a great news : amazing “Martha Making Comittee Meeting” project will be completed in the middle of March. I was totally astonished when I discovered the pilot few years ago. Mad & fun.

Awesome. I do wonder how much that has to do with the real Musashi, however :) Being such a fan of the man himself I always find some of his more far-fetched incarnations a little grating. Does look nice though!

I was right when I thought it looked suspiciously Kanada-esque even for Imaishi. I just found out that it was storyboarded by Kanada and animated by Imaishi.

Images from the Hanjuku Eiyu 2 op by Yoshinori Kanada (from here):

Thanks for information :)
Hanjuku Eiyu 2 op can be downloaded here. Cool animation, even if there’s a lot of CG.

Yer incredible. Actually, that was amazing, but it’s the first one Kanada did in 2003 for the Hanjuku Eiyu 3D game, not the one that just came out. The concept for the former was that you have 2D characters fighting 3D characters, so it looks like that on purpose. You’ll notice the pics I indicated are different.

Correction: The new one is apparently Hanjuku Eiyu 4, not 2. It’s coming out at the end of May.

Ok, I understand better :) I looked only for the 2nd issue of the game, finding informations about it on Anime Style too (and thinking that the pictures for the japanese blog came perhaps from another cinematics in the game). I hope to see the new opening :)
