Mind Game review @ Cartoon Brew

Amid Amidi over at Cartoon Brew has put up a really nice review of Mind Game written by Joshua Smith. Check it out.

Mind Game’s spreading. It seems that everyone who watches it wants to show it to everyone they know, who then want to show it to everyone they know. At Scarecrow Video in Seattle, their rental copy is almost obscured by all the staff recommendation notes surrounding it. Sooner or later the tipping point will be reached and Mind Game will become a bona fide cult classic.

Or am I being too optimistic? I sure hope not.

I just sent an email to Ben that basically said the same thing: that everyone who sees Mind Game wants to show it to everyone they know.

I hadn’t heard of Scarecrow Video (probably because I’m not from Seattle), but they sound too good to be true if a movie like Mind Game is a staff reccomendation.

Scarecrow Video is too good to be true. But it’s true. It’s the best video shop I’ve ever seen. Visited it weekly when I lived in Seattle. I’m forever indebted to that place for introducing me to countless obscurities, including one of my all-time favorite films, L’Ange. Doesn’t surprise me that they’d go bonkers over Mind Game, though it’s still good to hear.

Mind Game does have all the earmarks of a cult classic. I was surprised the other day to find that someone had added it to the IMDb. I fully expected it to remain in utter oblivion until the international release.
